Trinity County is another one of
those Counties without a major city or a major highway.
The county is bounded on the
southwest by the Trinity River and Lake Livingston and on the
northeast by the Naches River. More than one third of the county is in
the Davey Crockett National Forest.
There is Limited oil and gas
production here. But the county lives mostly from farming, ranching
and the lumber business.
This is another one of those
counties that was settled early because it had frontage on the Trinity
River. There was an important river port, in the southeastern corner
of the county, called Sebastopol. There is a community on the area
now, because it is on the shores of Lake Livingston. But there is
nothing left of the old port of Sebastopol except a granite marker on
Farm Road 356 a few miles southeast of Trinity. Some vandal somewhere
must have a substantial collection of bronze stars. The star is
missing from this marker and stars are missing from similar markers
all over the state.
